Domain purchase, cancelled [closed]

I recently started an escrow transaction to safely purchase a domain from the owner after both agreeing on a price. We both accepted the escrow agreements, terms and I made the payment. Now the owner contacted me and cancelled the transaction.

So now, I'm not the owner of the domain, they ask for me to make a higher bid and I still have to pay the escrow fees.

Is this legal? Does anyone have experience with this?
